Hobonichi 2027 Lineup Preview: New Covers, Collaborations & Planners

I’ve been using my Hobonichi so much this year that checking the Hobonichi 2027 previews daily became part of my daily routine in August. Now that the full lineup is finally out, I wanted to take a closer look at all the new planners, covers, and collaborations coming for 2027.

Hobonichi 2027 Release Date and Planner Lineup

The Hobonichi 2027 release date is September 1, 2026 at 11 AM Japan time through the official Hobonichi store. Hobonichi has been revealing the collection throughout August in its 2027 Preview Forest, with the complete lineup available before launch.

Before getting into all the new covers and collaborations, here are the main planner formats available for 2027:

• Original / Planner / Avec: A6, one page per day
• Cousin / Avec: A5, one page per day
• HON: A6 and A5, one page per day with a built-in hardcover
• Weeks / Weeks Mega: slim wallet-size weekly planners
• Day-Free: A6 and A5, monthly calendars with undated notebook pages
• 5-Year Techo: A6 and A5, covering 2027 through 2031

The Original remains the classic A6 Hobonichi format, while the larger Cousin gives you much more room for writing, journaling, and pasting things in. The Avec versions split the year into two six-month books, which can be especially helpful if your Hobonichi tends to get very chunky by the end of the year. The English Planner is also available in A6.

HON is the option for anyone who prefers a planner that already has a finished hardcover rather than using a separate Hobonichi cover. Weeks is the compact weekly option, while Day-Free is much more flexible for people who don’t necessarily need a dated daily page. And since 2027 begins a new five-year cycle, there is also a brand-new 2027–2031 Hobonichi 5-Year Techo this year.

Hobonichi 2027 Covers and Collaborations

This is, of course, the really fun part.

Hobonichi introduced the 2027 covers and collaborations one series at a time throughout the Preview Forest. The lineup ranges from simple new Colors to character collaborations, artists, fashion brands, textile designs, and some much more elaborate covers.

Colors

The basic Colors covers are always worth checking first because they’re some of the easiest ones to actually use every day.

For A6, the 2027 Colors include Fresh Citron, Blue Parasol, Bordeaux Teracotta, Black x Clear Blue, Navy, Aqua Lime, and Airy Flamingo.
The A5 Cousin Colors include Chiffon Greige, Misty Cedar, Mango Latte, Black x Clear Blue, Candy Floss, Atelier Sky, and Winter City.

There are some really pretty combinations here. I especially like that Hobonichi continues to offer both quieter colors and much brighter options, because sometimes I want the cover itself to be the main feature and sometimes I want something simple enough to pile charms and accessories onto.

Moomin

Moomin is back with a fairly large presence in the Hobonichi 2027 lineup.

For the standard covers, there is My Yard in Pale Mint for A6 and Pink Gray for A5, along with Night of the Big Party in both sizes. The Weeks lineup includes At the Table and A Day in the Life of Snufkin, and Moomin even appears in the new 5-Year Techo collection with the Written Memories cover.

I always think Moomin works especially well with Hobonichi because the illustrations feel cozy without making the planner look too childish.

Akiko Miyakoshi

Akiko Miyakoshi’s atmospheric artwork also joins the lineup this year. An Airport at Night is available as both an A6 and A5 cover, while the Weeks gets Once, in Spring.

These have a much quieter feeling than some of the colorful character collaborations, which is a nice contrast within the collection.

beautiful people

Hobonichi is collaborating again with fashion brand beautiful people, this time with the Nothing to Hide covers.

There is Green for A6, Pink for A5, and a Yellow Weeks cover. These are among the more expensive covers in the lineup, but they also feel very different from the standard printed Hobonichi designs.

PUPPET SUNSUN

And here is my favorite announcement from this year: PUPPET SUNSUN x Hobonichi!

This was easily the collaboration I was most excited to see in the entire preview. I already love SUNSUN’s slightly silly, fluffy look, and somehow it fits the Hobonichi world ridiculously well.

There are three main PUPPET SUNSUN planner designs in the 2027 lineup. The A6 cover is Wa!, the A5 Cousin cover is simply called S, and the Hobonichi Weeks design is Banana.

The Banana Weeks might be my favorite of the three. It’s cute without feeling like the entire planner is covered in a complicated illustration, and it is exactly the kind of thing that would make me happy every time I pulled it out of my bag. I really did not need another reason to consider a Weeks for 2027, but here we are.

Yoshie Watanabe

Yoshie Watanabe’s Petit Bloom appears throughout several formats, including A6, A5, and Weeks. The tiny floral design is much more delicate than some of this year’s bold covers, and it has that classic stationery feel that I can see aging really well over a full year of use.

Natal Design

The Natal Design collaboration returns with Hello New Day!, featuring Camo for A6 and Retro Stripe for A5. There is also a Lucky Swallow Weeks in the 2027 lineup.

These are definitely on the more playful side, and I like that the A6 and A5 versions don’t simply repeat the exact same design.

Yumi Kitagishi

There is a lot for Yumi Kitagishi fans this year.

The standard covers include White Cat House for A6 and White Cat Village and White Cat’s Daily Life for A5. There is also a White Cat Wallpaper Weeks and the adorable White Cat and Rabbit’s Tea Room HON, available in both A6 and A5.

This is one of those collections where it feels tempting to buy more than one format simply because the artwork changes from item to item.

tanakadaisuke, collect & collage, and Other Artistic Covers

The tanakadaisuke collaboration is much more decorative, with White Handkerchief Diary offered for both A6 and A5. At ¥27,500 for the A6 cover alone and ¥36,300 for A5, it is definitely one of the statement pieces rather than a casual planner cover purchase. There is also a much more accessible Starlight Weeks design.

Hobonichi also highlighted collect & collage as one of the new-lineup series in the official Preview Forest, along with several other artist and design collaborations. This is one of the things I enjoy most about Hobonichi previews: even if a design isn’t something I would personally buy, there are always a few covers that feel more like tiny art objects than planner accessories.

ONE PIECE Magazine

The ONE PIECE magazine x Hobonichi collection is huge again.

The A6 and A5 cover lineup includes designs such as Episode 1000, Going Merry Go!, Straw Hat Luffy, End of Luffy’s Dream, Banquet, Ace, Sabo, Luffy, and more. There is also a ONE PIECE edition A6 book, an A6 HON called Very Very Merry!, and a Weeks with the same name.

If you’re a ONE PIECE fan, this is basically its own mini Hobonichi collection rather than a single collaboration cover.

Slim Covers, Alettone, and Tragen

Not every new addition is character or illustration focused.

Hobonichi also introduced its Slim Covers, plus new additions to the practical Alettone and Tragen ranges. Alettone comes in more minimal colors as well as the new Sweets design, while Tragen includes the new Bitter Plaid plus solid colors including Mustard, Purple, Red, Oakmoss, and Black.

These are much more appealing if you actually carry your Hobonichi around every day and care about pockets and function as much as the artwork.

V&A Series and Leo Lionni

The V&A Series brings historical textile and decorative patterns into several formats. Strawberry Thief appears on A6, Blackthorn on A5, and the Weeks lineup includes Leicester and Welcome to the V&A. The HON uses a pattern called Vine in both A6 and A5.

Leo Lionni’s Frederick also gets several designs: Frederick (Sun) for A6, Frederick (Colors) for A5, and Frederick (Poet) for Weeks. I think Frederick is particularly cute on stationery, so this is another collaboration I can see being very popular.

minä perhonen

As usual, minä perhonen has one of the largest and most textile-focused collections.

The 2027 designs include felice, glass flower, piece, skyful, aalto, hütte, pomppia, and light berry, depending on the size and format. There are also dedicated minä perhonen Weeks covers.

These are some of the pricier options, but I understand the appeal. They feel less seasonal than character covers, and many of them look like something you could keep and reuse for years.

TSUKI no IRO, Hiroko Kubota, and Hello Kitty

The final stretch of the Preview Forest included TSUKI no IRO, Hiroko Kubota, and Hello Kitty.

Hiroko Kubota has several pieces across formats, including String Telephone Until the Moon is Full for HON, Meteor Shower in the Light Blue Forest for Weeks, and the beautiful The Sea’s Dream at Dawn covers made specifically for the new 5-Year Techo.

Hello Kitty also gets more than one format this year. Techo and Friends appears as an A6 and A5 cover, while Friends with my Techo is available as a Weeks. It is colorful and nostalgic in exactly the way I would expect a Hobonichi x Hello Kitty collaboration to be.

Hobonichi HON 2027

If you like the Hobonichi daily format but don’t want to deal with choosing and swapping separate covers, the Hobonichi HON 2027 lineup is much easier to browse.

HON comes in both A6 and A5, and the inside layouts correspond to the Original and Cousin respectively. For 2027, the main designs include Slash (Navy), Yumi Kitagishi’s White Cat and Rabbit’s Tea Room, Hiroko Kubota’s String Telephone Until the Moon is Full, V&A Vine, and Bow & Tie Sheep Sheep Sheep. There is also the Japanese ONE PIECE edition Very Very Merry! in A6.

I like HON more every year. It has the familiar Hobonichi interior but visually feels closer to a regular hardcover notebook, which is especially nice if you don’t need all the pockets and bulk of a traditional Hobonichi cover.

Hobonichi Weeks 2027 and Weeks Mega

The Hobonichi Weeks 2027 lineup is huge, which probably isn’t surprising considering how popular the format has become.

The basic options include White Line in Black and Ivory, plus Colors in Sea Glass, Canaria Yellow, Poppy Red, Midnight Blue, and Pink Sapphire. Then there are all the collaborations: PUPPET SUNSUN, Moomin, Hello Kitty, Yumi Kitagishi, Hiroko Kubota, Akiko Miyakoshi, Leo Lionni, V&A, Yoshie Watanabe, MOTHER, tanakadaisuke, Natal Design, ONE PIECE, and more.

Weeks Mega keeps the same compact weekly layout but includes roughly three times the blank memo pages in the back. For 2027, there are bright Sneaker versions in Lime Green and Mandarin Orange, Mega versions of the regular Colors, and Bow & Tie designs including Sheep Sheep Sheep and Candy Dream.

There are also separate Weeks covers this year from Alettone, Tragen, beautiful people, minä perhonen, Liberty Fabrics, leather collections, and others, so anyone who likes to protect or bulk up their Weeks has plenty of options too.

Hobonichi Day-Free 2027

The Hobonichi Day-Free 2027 remains the flexible option for anyone who likes Hobonichi paper and layouts but doesn’t necessarily want 365 dated daily pages.

It combines monthly calendars with undated graph-paper notebook pages and comes in both A6 and A5. There are dedicated BS Lite covers in Black and Blue, although the A6 Day-Free can also fit standard Original covers and the A5 version can use Cousin covers.

I think this one gets overlooked during release season because all the exciting artwork tends to draw attention first, but it is probably one of the easiest Hobonichi formats to use without feeling guilty about blank pages.

A New Hobonichi 5-Year Techo for 2027–2031

This year is also the beginning of a new Hobonichi 5-Year Techo 2027–2031, available in both A6 and A5.

The five-year format puts the same date from five consecutive years together, so you gradually build a record that becomes more interesting each year. The new cover options include Hiroko Kubota’s The Sea’s Dream at Dawn, Moomin Written Memories, Hollywood Ranch Market Indigo Jeans Pocket, and leather covers in Natural and Red. There is also an A6 haconiwa 5-Year Techo Gift Set.

A five-year journal always sounds like a big commitment to me, but I do love the idea of eventually being able to look across five different years on the same page.

What I’m Eyeing from the Hobonichi 2027 Lineup

After following the previews every day, I’m still most drawn to the PUPPET SUNSUN collection, especially the Banana Weeks, although a few of the Moomin and Yumi Kitagishi designs are also tempting. I’m trying to be a little more practical this year and think about what I’ll actually use rather than what simply looks cute on release day, but I have a feeling at least one PUPPET SUNSUN item is going to be very hard to resist.
