2026 Mid-Year Stationery Favorites: 3 Products I Actually Use

When I think about the best stationery products I have used during the first half of 2026, the items that stand out are not necessarily the newest or most expensive. They are the ones that stayed in my routine after the initial excitement wore off. They made my existing supplies easier to organize, gave me more practical options when I was away from home, or simply made me more likely to sit down and use my stationery.

That is what I wanted this mid-year stationery favorites post to focus on. These are not products I tried once and immediately recommended. They are things I have continued reaching for while planning, drawing, traveling, and reorganizing my stationery space. Interestingly, my selections happen to be Japanese stationery products, although that was not intentional. They simply became some of my most frequently used stationery during the first half of the year.

Kokuyo Bobbin and Compact Washi Tape Storage

The Kokuyo Bobbin began as a solution to a storage problem. While reorganizing my bookshelf and stationery area, I realized that my washi tape collection was taking up far too much room compared with how often I used each roll. I wanted to keep the designs I loved without dedicating an entire section of my shelf to bulky tape rolls. Since writing that review, I have found a few more practical ways to use the bobbins. I had wound more than I realistically needed from some rolls, so I gave several filled bobbins to a friend. It felt much neater than wrapping tape samples around a random plastic card, and the tape was already stored in a form that was easy to keep and use.

I also bought Kokuyo cutter cases for a few of the designs I use most often. They protect the tape, keep the loose end under control, and let me cut a piece without carrying scissors. Recently, I have been keeping one or two in my pencil case, and they fit neatly beside my pens without creating the bulky shape of a regular washi tape roll. I do not need a case for every bobbin because I can simply move whichever tape I want to carry into one of the cases. What started as a compact washi tape storage system has also become a genuinely convenient way to bring a few favorite tapes with me.

Uni Style Fit 5-Color Multi Pen

I started using the Uni Style Fit 5-color multi pen because I wanted more color options without carrying several separate pens. I usually keep my pencil case simple with a black Uni-ball One P, one colored pen, and a mechanical pencil. That setup worked most of the time, but the one color I packed was not always the one I wanted for my planner or habit tracker.

With the Style Fit, I can choose five refills and put together a color combination that actually fits how I use it. The refills are finer than the Uni-ball One Fica Color pens, which I prefer for my smaller handwriting and planner pages, and the ink comes out smoothly without skipping. I also like that I can replace just one refill when it runs out.

I originally bought it for travel, but I now use it at home just as often. My first body was ivory, and I recently bought a green one because I liked the colors and design so much. I still love my Uni-ball One Fica Color pens—the colors are beautiful, and I reach for them whenever I have the space to use several pens. The Style Fit is simply easier when I want multiple colors in one compact pen.

Uni-ball One P for Everyday Black Ink

I almost always carry a black Uni-ball One P with me. I use black ink for most of my writing, so I would rather keep a separate black pen than use one of the five Style Fit slots for it. The compact body fits easily into a small pencil case, but the wider shape still feels comfortable to write with.

For travel or everyday outings, I usually bring the One P, the Style Fit, and a mechanical pencil. That gives me a reliable black pen, several color options, and a pencil without having to carry a full pencil case.

Pilot Lightive for Fountain Pen Drawing

The Pilot Lightive has become one of my favorite Japanese pens for drawing because it feels practical rather than precious. I used the Platinum Preppy for several years and still recommend it, but I eventually wanted to try a different fountain pen. Since I mainly use fountain pens for sketching now, I was not looking for an expensive collector’s pen. I wanted something lightweight, comfortable, and easy to use regularly. Matte Body

The longer I use the Pilot Lightive, the more I appreciate its matte body. The pen is light enough to remain comfortable during a longer drawing session, while the slightly textured surface keeps it from feeling slippery when I change angles or make small, controlled marks. I also like that it feels casual enough to pick up for a quick sketch rather than like a pen that needs to be handled carefully. Even with pigment ink, I have left the pen unused for as long as a month without the nib drying out or becoming clogged.

Pilot Penmanship EF Nib

The most useful change was replacing the original nib with a Pilot Penmanship EF nib. The Penmanship EF nib is incredibly fine, which is exactly what I wanted for drawing. I can add small details without the lines looking too heavy once I paint over them with watercolor. I cleaned and safely stored the original, thicker Lightive nib instead of discarding it. Fine lines suit my current drawing style, but I may eventually become interested in broader and more expressive fountain pen marks, and I will still have the option to switch back.

Black and Sepia Ink

I currently use the black matte Lightive with black ink for everyday sketching. More recently, I bought an orange Lightive for sepia ink, which I want to use as a softer and warmer alternative to black. Using different body colors for each ink will also make the pens easy to identify without opening them: black for my dependable everyday lines and orange for warmer sepia sketches.

What all of these products have in common is that I kept using them long after I first bought them. The Kokuyo Bobbin made my washi tape collection easier to store and carry, the Style Fit gave me more color options without filling my pencil case, and the Lightive became a fountain pen I could comfortably use for drawing.

That is why I wanted to include them in a mid-year favorites post instead of writing only about new purchases. Stationery can be exciting when it is new, but the products I end up recommending are usually the ones that still feel useful months later. Halfway through 2026, they are still the products I use often, enjoy owning, and feel comfortable recommending.
